Desilting work 74% over in delta, officials asked to meet May 30 deadline: WRD principal secretary

WITH 74% of desilting works completed across the delta region, officials have been instructed to finish the remaining works by May 30 to ensure smooth flow of Mettur dam water to the tail-end areas, said J Jayakanthan, Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department (WRD).
Inspecting the desilting operations at the Old Pallavan Canal in Kathirimulai village, Kuthalam, Jayakanthan stated that the WRD is carrying out desilting along 5,021 kilometers of rivers, canals, and drains across 12 delta districts.
