CHHATTISGARH police on Monday performed the last rites of eight Maoists, including the supreme commander Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, who were killed in an encounter with security forces in Abujhmad area of Narayanpur district in south Chhattisgarh on May 21.

- EJAZ KAISER @ Raipur

The relatives of the deceased Maoists, who were in Narayanpur since May 23 seeking the custody of the bodies, expressed their strong disappointment. The police carried out the cremation in a secluded area and didn't allow access to media persons. Among the eight slain Maoists, three were from Telangana, two from Andhra Pradesh and three were from Chhattisgarh, police said. The family members of a slain Maoist cadre, Kosi alias Hungi, had requested the local authorities to conduct last rites in Narayanpur owing to the fear of spread of communicable disease from the decomposed body.
