Forum accuses Modi govt of ignoring farmer leader on fast-unto-death

HUNDREDS of farmers took to the streets to extend their support to the nation-wide protest called by Samyukta Kisan Morcha against the Central government for ignoring farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is currently holding a fast-unto-death at the border of Punjab and Haryana, demanding the implementation of minimum support price (MSP) for all crops.

The farmers attached to the Federation of Farmers Association led by Kuruburu Shantakumar held a protest near Gun House Circle on Monday. Tense moments prevailed when the farmers expressing anger against the Central government tried to burn the effigy of PM Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but the police stopped the protesters from setting the effigies on fire and seized it. As the situation turned tense, the police detained the farmers and ferried them in police vans to DAR grounds. During the scuffle with the police, a protester named Mahadevaswamy broke his leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.
