CLOSE on the heels of the gang-rape of an Israeli tourist near Hampi recently, the police department, on the directions of the higher authorities, has stepped up vigil and taken measures for the safety of the tourists staying in resorts and homestays in the region.

The Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts have several resorts and homestays in Bandipur, Kabini backwaters, Biligiri Ranga Hills which accommodate a large number of domestic and international tourists. The temples in wildlife sanctuaries also attract devotees to MM Hills, Hemavad Gopalswamy Betta, and BR Hills.
