State government may play delay tactic, set up sub-committee or expert panel

- DEVARAJ B HIREHALLI @ Bengaluru

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a special cabinet meeting on Thursday to deliberate on resolving the caste conundrum that has evolved from the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission's Socio-Economic and Educational Survey (SES-2015), popularly known as caste census, which was submitted to the cabinet last Friday.

The Congress government is likely to play it safe for the moment, by not taking any decisions which could hurt the feelings of either community, given the sensitivity of the issue, according to official sources.

The cabinet could set up a sub-committee to study the report, or an expert committee headed by a retired IAS officer, before which the 'aggrieved' communities can file their objections, and also call a special session of joint legislature to debate the report.
