Scrutiny Tightened for Weavers' Scheme Over Its Misuse in DK

The Department of Handlooms and Textiles has tightened the scrutiny of applications for the Nekar Samman Yojana, a financial assistance scheme of the state government for weavers, over potential misuse of the same in Dakshina Kannada.

At present, there are only 55 registered weavers and a small number of allied weavers in Dakshina Kannada. The scheme was launched during the Covid pandemic to support the weavers in distress by providing an annual financial assistance of Rs 5,000. In the year 2022-23, as many as 105 weavers from the district benefitted from the scheme, while in the year 2023-24, as many as 106 weavers availed the scheme. However, the number of beneficiaries decreased in the financial year 2024-25 to just 65.
