Long-pending demand soon to be a reality, CM announces govt medical college in Puttur

THE long-pending demand of people of Dakshina Kannada to establish a government medical college in Puttur will soon become a reality with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announcing the same in his budget on Friday.

CM Siddaramaiah said that the state government has proposed to establish the new Medical College at Puttur and to this end, action will be initiated to upgrade the present 100-bedded Taluk hospital during this fiscal year 2025-26.

Muneer Katipalla, who is also an activist welcomed the state government's decision to establish the government medical college in Puttur in the budget. He urged to implement the same without further delay, as land has been already reserved in Bannur in Puttur. "It should not be established under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, instead it should be fully run by the government," he urged. District hospitals including Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru will be renovated at a cost of Rs 650 crore.
