FINANCE minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday rejected "tariff king" jibe by US president Donald Trump, as she asserted that the country has streamlined its tariff structure and that effective rates are "far lower" than perceived.
Speaking at a Trade Conclave by India Exim Bank, Sitharaman highlighted that the latest 2025-26 Budget reduced the number of tariff rates to eight, including zero rate. This follows removal of seven tariff rates in the current budget and another seven in the 2023-24 budget. These reforms have brought India'
