2.77L Vehicles Scrapped in Country Under VVMP

Nearly 2.77 lakh vehicles have been scrapped in the country under the Voluntary Vehicle Fleet Modernisation Programme (VVMP) since its launch in 2022, according to data shared in response to an unstarred question by MP Tejaswi Surya in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Uttar Pradesh emerged as the state with the highest number of vehicles scrapped, accounting for 1,21,206 units, followed by Haryana with 38,993, and Maharashtra with 19,310 scrapped vehicles. Among southern states, Karnataka reported a total of 5,678 vehicles scrapped at registered facilities. Other notable figures include Gujarat (15,448), Rajasthan (15,420), and West Bengal (9,735).

The VVMP, which aims to phase out unfit and polluting vehicles, is being implemented through Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) established in various states.
