SOG commando shoots self at MSP camp in Areekode

A SPECIAL Operation Group (SOG) commando allegedly shot himself dead on Sunday night.

The deceased is Vineeth, 36, son of Chandran, a resident of Thekkumthara, Wayanad. The incident occurred around 9pm at the MSP camp in Areekode.

Vineeth was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching there.

Preliminary reports suggest that he allegedly took his life due to prolonged denial of leave, even during critical personal circumstances.

His wife is pregnant, and he was denied permission to attend to her.

Vineeth, who was undergoing training to combat Maoist and terrorist activities, was found dead at the camp.

Minutes before the tragic incident, he had sent a WhatsApp message to a friend.

Vineeth criticised the assistant commandant at the camp, Ajith, in the message.
