General edu dept's inspection to ensure school safety in final stage

Inspections initiated following death of a student in Kollam and reports of school building collapses

THE General Education department's inspection, aimed at addressing safety issues in educational institutions, has covered over 1,000 schools in Kozhikode. Based on complaints received after the inspections, the local self-government institutions in the district have started taking action against several schools.

Though these schools had received fitness certificates before June 2 as part of school reopening, inspections by the local bodies, complaints started surfacing after the death of Class 8 student Midhun in Kollam district and reports of school buildings collapsing in the state.
