Moved by public grief, a BLO decided to respect Zubeen by not deleting his name from the list

Zubeen connected with youth of Assam through his music. Six months on, people are yet to come to terms with his passing

THE fragrance of incense and flowers fills the air as fans from across Assam continue to flock to “Zubeen Kshetra’ in Hatimura, falling under the Dispur Assembly constituency.

This is the final resting place of the late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg (52), sprawling across 10 bighas alongside National Highway 27.

The rains have brought temporary relief from dust to the roadside eateries, cigarette and tobacco vendors and shops selling framed photos of the singer, which have mushroomed amid a steady stream of fans.

Six months after the legend’s passing, work to develop the site finally began last week. A boundary wall is being constructed, initiated by the state’s Public Works Department.
