Without bridges, crossing swollen rivers a risky task in Edamalakkudy

The absence has not only made life of tribals miserable but paved way for exploitation

MONSOON is a time of misery for tribespeople in the Edamalakkudy panchayat in Idukki. For they have to cross rivers through perilous bridges which the tribes themselves have constructed using tree branches, bamboo, and reeds to avail essential items including ration.

When rivers turn mighty, crossing them is a daunting task. But left with no other option to keep the hearth burning, they risk their lives to reach Valparai in Tamil Nadu, or Anakkulam and Pettimudi to buy groceries.
