Drinking Water Crisis Deepens in Kollam's Perayam Panchayat

Residents of Perayam panchayat have been grappling with a severe drinking water crisis. Despite being one of the worst-hit regions in Kollam district, efforts to address the acute water shortage is stalled due to bureaucratic delays and inter-departmental disputes.

Wards such as Kuthiramunamb, Padappakara, Karikuzhi, and Kumbalam are the worst affected. Currently, water is being supplied to some households through the Kundara water project, but according to officials, its coverage is limited.

"Only a few areas in the panchayat can be covered under the Kundara water project," said a panchayat official.
