Has been identified by the UN Development Programme's Climate Change Panel as one of the four most suitable waste management technologies for rural Indian agriculture
TRANSFORMING the face of waste management across Kannur district, the Thumboormuzhi composting system has become a practical solution for processing organic and animal waste. Launched under the Suchitwa Mission, the initiative is being funded jointly by Swachh Bharat Mission (70%) and local panchayats (30%).
The Haritha Karma Sena has been entrusted with managing the project, and the organic manure produced through the composting process is being commercially sold.
Recognized globally as a highly cost-effective and eco-friendly method of composting, the Thumboormuzhi model has been identified by the United Nations Development Programme's Climate Change Committee as one of the four most suitable waste management technologies for rural Indian agriculture.
