Third phase of Aushadha Gramam initiative launched in Kalliassery

Project became a source of income for farmers while promoting medicinal plant cultivation

THE third phase of the Aushadha Gramam medicinal plant cultivation project was launched in Kalliassery on Monday, marking another milestone in the constituency's efforts to turn agriculture into a sustainable livelihood for local farmers.

Initially conceived to tackle the issue of wild animal intrusion on farmlands, the project has since evolved into a reliable source of income for farmers while promoting medicinal plant cultivation.

Launched in May 2023 on 25 acres of farmland, the project expanded to 100 acres in its second phase, with kurunthotti (sida cordifolia) selected as the primary crop. The third phase was inaugurated by MLA M Vijin, who also honoured the best-performing farmers and collectives from the previous season.
