MHA meeting on Nepal border security

The review on May 2 assumes significance especially after change in guard in Kathmandu and emerging situation

WITH the change of guard in Kathmandu and recent overtures by the Nepal government, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called a high-level security review meeting here on May 2 to assess the emerging situation in the border areas between the two countries, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed the states bordering Nepal, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and also the Sashastra Seema Bal responsible for guarding the borders to step up vigil.

According to the sources, the meeting, which will be held at Kartavya Bhawan-3, is going to discuss measures for further strengthening security arrangements, particularly touching Bihar and eastern UP. They said that the government had been taking the emerging situation seriously, particularly with regard to certain decisions like customs duty levied on imports from India.
