Hearing-impaired individuals in Karnataka staged a protest, highlighting their continuously neglected demands for improved welfare and employment opportunities.
KARNATAKA State Deaf Welfare Association members staged a dharna near Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, urging the government's attention to the continuously neglected long-pending demands, which are aimed at improving the welfare of the deaf community in Karnataka, in Belagavi on Tuesday.
The agitators said that despite consistent efforts from the past eight years, there was no significant progress made. Hearing-impaired individuals, who represented 24 district associations from across Karnataka, participated in the peaceful demonstration.
One of their demands to the government was to provide employment opportunities for the deaf (with hearing loss of 90 dB and above) under Group C and Group D categories in departments such as Health Department, Karnataka Municipal Administration Department, Social Welfare Department, Women and Child Welfare Department and Youth Empowerment and Sports Department.
