Bilimale says 60% of text on signboards must be in Kannada

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @ Belagavi

WITH the state government making use of Kannada mandatory in all government offices, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman Dr Purushottam Bilimale urged officers and staff of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) to adhere to the government norms.

Addressing the "Kannada Implementation Progress Review Meeting" held at the Council Hall of BCC on Thursday, Bilimale expressed concern that although the state mandates at least 60% of all signboards' text be in Kannada, the rule is not strictly enforced in the city.

He said the district administration and the BCC must ensure compliance. He said that all kinds of shops, stalls, and commercial establishments must have signboards with at least 60% of the text in Kannada. Failure to adhere to this requirement must result in appropriate action, including cancellation of licences, he said.
