HC orders stay on Bengal govt's stipend for school employees sacked by SC

The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered an interim stay till September 26 on the West Bengal government's financial scheme to provide interim relief for Group C & D non-teaching state-aided school employees who had lost their jobs following the Supreme Court order on April 3.

The stay by Justice Amrita Sinha is in place till September 26 or until further orders. Earlier, the Mamata Banerjee government had issued a notification providing a monthly honorarium of ₹25,000 and ₹20,000 to the approximately 5,000 employees. The petitioners in the case, the waitlisted candidates, had filed a petition in the High Court, urging a stay on the government's relief scheme, arguing that it "frustrated" the SC order.
