Bommai to centre: Protect interests of chilli growers

AFTER Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, BJP MP and former CM Basavaraj Bommai has urged the Union government to take measures to procure dry chillies grown by Karnataka's farmers, in the wake of a crash in prices in the market due to bumper production.
A couple of days ago, Joshi had a meeting with Union Minister for Agriculture and Famers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan and submitted a memorandum seeking intervention of the Central government. He had stressed the urgent need to extend the price deficiency payment scheme under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to Karnataka to support the state's farmers.
