Belagavi to emerge as a key player in Global Capability Centres

THE sugar bowl of Karnataka-Belagavi is all set to emerge as a key player in Karnataka's Global Capability Centres (GCCs), as it has been chosen as one of the four Global Innovation Districts to be developed by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS).

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 16th state budget. Alongside Belagavi, the other three districts included in this initiative are Mysuru, Dharwad, and Bengaluru.

As part of this plan, KEONICS will establish three new Global Technology Centres as plug-and-play facilities in Mangaluru, Hubballi, and Belagavi. In the education sector, the government has proposed a feasibility report for setting up an agriculture college in Athani taluk of Belagavi. Additionally, government residential schools for special children in Belagavi and Mysuru will be upgraded for Rs 5 crore, with NGO collaboration for their maintenance.
