Collision with stationary goods train near Chennai caused fire & led to derailment of 13 coaches
Following a sustained investigation, the cause of the accident involving the Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express at Kavaraipettai under the Southern Railway on 11 October 2024 has reportedly been confirmed as an act of sabotage.
According to sources, miscreants had allegedly removed components of the track interlocking system, leading to the tragic incident.
A senior source, sharing details from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) report, revealed that the CRS of the Southern Circle has attributed the accident to a deliberate act of sabotage.
The report states that the collision between the Bagmati Express and a stationary freight train "happened not due to automatic/sudden failure of any equipment/assets but due to the forceful alteration in the designed position of LH (left hand) tongue rails by the miscreant(s)".
