Somanna Urged To Expedite Hubballi-Ankola Rail Line Project

Foundation for the project was laid by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000
The Railway Ministry has been urged to fast-track the long-pending Hubballi-Ankola railway project and enhance train services in the South Western Railway (SWR) zone by adding more coaches and increasing train frequency.
In a memorandum submitted to Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna, Mahendra Singhi, a member of the SWR Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), emphasised the strategic importance of the Hubballi-Ankola rail line, which connects the North Karnataka hinterland to the coastal belt. While steps have been taken to prepare a new Detailed Project Report (DPR), Singhi stressed that the project must be expedited.
