In a major relief to BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider a plea filed by the Karnataka government challenging the high court order quashing the criminal case lodged against him in a case related to alleged spreading of fake news.
The case against Surya was that on November 7, 2024, he had shared an article from Kannada news portals claiming that a farmer, Rudrappa Channappa Balikai, had died by suicide after finding out that his land had been taken over by the Waqf Board.
