Police open fire, arrest 5 for kidnapping bizman

IN a swift operation, Uttara Kannada police on Saturday arrested five people who allegedly kidnapped a businessman from Mundgod, after firing at them.
The police fired at the accused when they tried to flee after collecting the ransom amount.
Three policemen, a Police Inspector and a PSI, were injured in the melee. However, Yellapur police managed to arrest five people who had kidnapped Zameer Ahmed Dargahwala from Mundgod.
The incident occurred at 4 am when the police chased a team of five miscreants who had kidnapped Mundgod-based Dargahwala and demanded ₹30 lakh as ransom. They released him after they received ₹18 lakh.
Mundgod police pursuing this case had arrested a few persons on Friday. However, the arrest led to the revelation that there are more people involved.
Zeroing in on other miscreants, the Mundgod police chased them from Khalghatgi and informed the Yellapur police to ambush them.
