WATER Resources Department (WRD) officials are mulling to widen the bypass canal of Sarkarpathy hydro electric power generation station and increase its water carrying capacity to 1,000 cusecs from the current 600 cusecs.
WATER Resources Department (WRD) officials are mulling to widen the bypass canal of Sarkarpathy hydro electric power generation station and increase its water carrying capacity to 1,000 cusecs from the current 600 cusecs. A turbine generates electricity in power house using water from the Parambikulam dam. Later, water is released through the sub canal into the contour canal to flow into the Thirumurthy dam and subsequently released for irrigation purposes. The Thirumurthy dam irrigates around 3.7 lakh acres of farmlands under the PAP scheme.
