Protest against liquor outlets near Mettupalayam bus stand

Stating that the presence of four liquor outlets and private bars near the Mettupalayam bus stand spells trouble for commuters and locals, residents of Mettupalayam and members of CITU staged a protest on Friday after Independence Day celebrations.
They asked authorities to shut down the liquor shops in the locality.
Mettupalayam, the gateway to Nilgiris district, is a popular tourist destination and thousands frequent the bus stand on a daily basis.
The bus stand is also situated close to dense residential and commercial establishments. Residents have alleged that the four Tasmac outlets on Annaji Rao Street and Uzhavar Santhai Street, connecting the bus stand's entry and exit points, are causing unrest among commuters and residents.
