The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) on Friday reclaimed a reserved site in GD Naidu Layout in Ward 7 of East Zone, after demolishing unauthorised buildings on encroached land.
The 3.22-acre layout, approved by the Town and Country Planning Department in 1983, was officially named GD Naidu Layout in 2011. Of the 31 plots in the area, 25 cents had been earmarked as open space for children's play and four cents reserved for commercial purposes. However, the children's play area was illegally sold to four individuals, and in August 2023, the land was registered in the name of a fifth individual for ₹1
