Adoor's remarks spark row at film policy conclave

FILMMAKER Adoor Gopalakrishnan's remarks against financial support for SC/ST and women filmmakers sparked controversy at the closing ceremony of the Kerala government's film policy conclave on Sunday.
Gopalakrishnan criticised the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) for providing what he termed as excessive funding to directors from SC/ST communities.
"Those from SC/ST backgrounds should be given at least three months of training under experienced filmmakers before being supported. Rs 1.5 crore grant should be split and given to three people, rather than funding one project. Government money should not be used just because the film has a superstar or simply because the director is a woman," said Gopalakrishnan.
