THE moment players started walking off the field at about 10.45 AM local time, it was clear how the day was going to play out at The Gabba.

Wet & watch at Gabba as rain takes centre stage

A day filled with rain and thunderstorms with little cricket. Both India and Australia came back onto the field at 11.15 AM again only for the clouds to open up in another 36 minutes. Australia were 28/0 in 13.2 overs when it happened and the scorecard remained the same when play was called off for the day at quarter past four in the evening.

To be fair, the rain forecast was always there. It said that there are going to be thunderstorms throughout the day in Brisbane. So much so that it makes one wonder how much of it had a role in Rohit Sharma opting to bowl first on what seemed like a decent pitch to bat on. They had two changes, one was expected with Akash Deep walking in for Harshit Rana, and the other being Ravindra Jadeja replacing R Ashwin.
