Water levels rise in Himachal dams

STATUS OF DAMS

  • 497.18 metres against the reservoir level of 512.06 metres
  • How much it is full: The dam reservoir is filled up to 56% of its total capacity
  • How was it last year: 21% at the same time. Average of the last 10 years is 37%
  • 416.22 m on Thursday against the total level of 423.67 metres.

AS the gushing waters from rivers, drains and barrages batter the north-western belt of the country, the Central Water Commission (CWC) on July 13 revealed that the water levels in the Bhakra, Pong and Kol dams in Himachal Pradesh are almost double than the normal for this time of the year. The combined storage of these three dams is 97% above the past 10-year average.
