OVER four years after the death of former president Pranab Mukherjee, the Centre has approved a "Samadhi" (memorial) for him at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, a complex earmarked for the last rites and building commemorative sites of presidents, vice presidents and prime ministers in Delhi.
The Congress veteran served as the 13th president from 2012 until 2017. Mukherjee, the first person from West Bengal to hold the post, died on August 31, 2020.
His daughter and noted Kathak dancer Sharmistha Mukherjee on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express her gratitude for honouring her father.
