Over 10k CCTV cameras to be installed in 786 MCD schools to improve safety

IN order to provide a safe and secure environment for students studying in its schools, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is going to install 10,786 CCTV cameras at 786 school sites. A proposal on the same was passed in last month's MCD House Session. This entire project will cost approximately Rs. 25 crore, including a four-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC).

In February, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sought a report from the Delhi government and police in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Class 3 girl inside an MCD school. In March, another case of alleged gang rape of a Class 5 student by a 54-year-old peon of an MCD school and his associates was reported.
