CHIEF Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that doles for the 43,000 Durga puja committees will be increased from ₹70,000 to ₹85,000 this year.
Announcing this initiative at a meeting in Netaji Indoor Stadium, she also said that the committees will only have to pay one-third of their electricity bill. The remaining will be waived by the state.
Banerjee said the state government will provide Rs 1 lakh to all puja committees in the state next year.
"We started with ₹25,000 and this time, we offer ₹85,000 as financial assistance to puja committees. Fire brigade services will also be provided for free," she said.
