Goods exports see major rise in Oct, up 17.3% to $39.2 bn

THE country's merchandise exports witnessed a significant increase of 17.25%, reaching $39.2 billion in October, making it the strongest month in the last decade.

Meanwhile, the import bill also rose to an all-time high of $66.34 billion, reflecting a 3.9% increase compared to the same month last year. The merchandise trade deficit expanded from a five-month low of $20.8 billion in September to $27.14 billion in October.

"The data showcases a remarkable growth trajectory, driven by strong performances across key sectors such as engineering goods, electronics, and chemicals," said Sunil Barthwal, commerce secretary.
