‘For most Indians, incomes haven’t gone up in proportion to price rise’
A day after Prime Minister Modi announced the extension of the free food grain schemePradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for five years, Congress hit out at the government saying that it is an indication of the continuing high level of economic distress and growing inequalities.
In a statement, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "The PM's latest announcement is an indication of the continuing high level of economic distress and growing inequalities. For the vast majority of Indians, incomes have not grown in line with the skyhigh prices of essential commodities." The PMGKAY scheme, which was to end on December 31, 2023, will now continue till December 2028.
