Govt signs MoU with IIT Kanpur & secures necessary permissions to carry out up to 5 trials

THE Delhi government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to conduct pilot cloud seeding trials in the national capital.
The agreement, formalised at the Delhi Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, will allow scientific experiments aimed at inducing artificial rainfall in northwest Delhi during the months of October and November.
Announcing the project, Sirsa said the first trial is scheduled to take place between October 7 and 9, with up to five trials planned over the next two months, depending on the outcomes of the initial attempt.
