A seven-year-old girl from Vilakkudy in Kollam is in critical condition after contracting rabies despite receiving vaccinations following a stray dog bite on April 8.

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Kollam

The child is undergoing treatment at SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

This is the second such incident reported in Kerala in the last one week, raising concerns over the efficacy of the antirabies vaccines. Health authorities, meanwhile, pointed out that severity of injury and rate of transmission of infection affects the vaccine's efficacy.
