McKenzie signals PA’s exit from the GNU

GAYTON McKenzie, leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), has announced his party's intentions to withdraw from the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Johannesburg coalition.

This declaration, made on Heritage Day in an interview with eNCA, stems from what McKenzie describes as a consistent pattern of disrespect towards the PA from its coalition partners, along with allegations of sidelining his deputy, Kenny Kunene.

The Patriotic Alliance surprised many by securing nine seats in Parliament during the 2024 general elections.

“We are not considering, we are withdrawing from our relationship in coalitions and immediately after that we are going to start the processes of withdrawing from the GNU also. In the GNU you sign that if you are unhappy, there are processes that you follow. In the coalitions, we didn’t sign that, so we are leaving immediately from the coalitions,” he said.
