SPRINGBOK Women’s Sevens forward Leigh Fortuin still recalls, with fondness, the try on debut at the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup in Ghana last year that thrust her into the limelight, and she will be hoping to create more happy memories at the 2025 edition of the tournament in Kenya this weekend.

“T will remember that not only because I could finish off a good team effort, but because it was my dream to represent South Africa and become a Springbok player. That was a bonus, and I was really happy with how it played out,” Fortuin said, after a tough training session at the University of Pretoria’s High-Performance Centre on Monday.

Her senior debut marked a rapid rise in the Sevens game for the 21-year-old utility player, who captained the Junior Springbok Women from the inside centre position earlier in the 2024 season.
