THE South African Communist Party (SACP) joins the working-class and all freedom-loving people across the world in congratulating the people of Angola as they celebrate their 50th independence anniversary.

On 11 November 1975, the people of Angola, after centuries of fighting, officially declared independence and freed themselves from Portuguese colonialism and united to chart a new way forward.
In the fight for independence, the Angolan people faced a myriad of colonial forces, including the imperialist United States and NATO countries, which bolstered the colonial Portuguese regime with hundreds of millions of dollars in military and economic aid to maintain colonialism in Angola.
