Warning of violence on UK streets

THERE is “every possibility” that similar violence to the Southport riots of summer 2024 could reoccur, the head of a watchdog has said.

The police service “should not be caught off-guard again”, Sir Andy Cooke, His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services, wrote in The Sunday Telegraph.
Disorder broke out after the murder of three girls at a dance class in the Merseyside town on July 29 last year. It quickly spread to other areas and mosques, community centres and libraries were attacked while hotels housing asylum seekers were also targeted.
