Tumble dryer sparked serious house fire

A DEVASTATING house fire that put four people in hospital was probably caused by a tumble dryer, firefighters have said.

The blaze tore through the roof of the property on Richardson Way in Consett, County Durham, the Berry Edge Estate on January 2.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended as smoke was seen billowing out the top of the property. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that four people were taken to hospital. An investigation was launched to establish what started the fire.
