'This is about safety for the pupils and teachers'

TEACHERS say they are worried for their safety after calling a strike over pupil behaviour at a Northumberland high school.

Staff at Haydon Bridge High School have walked out due to a row over pupil behaviour, with three days of strike action scheduled this week.

That follows two strike days that took place on December 9 and 10 after earlier action was called off at the last minute. Members of the National Education Union (NEU) and NASUWT at the school say pupil behaviour is "disruptive" and management has "failed to act".

Speaking on the picket line on Tuesday morning, Northumberland NEU branch secretary Sean Kelly said: "It's not rocket science. If you don't have pupil behaviour management, you're not going to have good teaching and learning.
