There's still plenty of 'go' in Gordon

IT was a year ago that news broke to send shockwaves around Tyneside. Newcastle United, in a bid to avoid PSR issues, were willing to talk to Liverpool over a potential deal for Anthony Gordon.

- By STUART JAMIESON

The Magpies' fanbase was stunned. Until then, the stark reality of the pressures of the profit and sus-tainability rules were perhaps not truly appreciated outside the corridors of St James' Park, but this left no one in any doubt.

Of course, a different solution was found, with Elliot Anderson leaving for Nottingham Forest while Yankuba Minteh didn’t as much leave as never really arrive, with Brighton signing the winger follow-ing a year-long loan at Feyenoord.

While no one wanted to see the duo depart, particularly local talent Anderson, there was a collective sigh of relief that Gordon was staying on Tyneside. After all, he had just completed a sensational season, where he had proved beyond doubt that he was one of the most exciting forward talents in the game.
