The Mercury is rising as our big day gets closer

A SPECIAL window was unveiled at Fenwick in Newcastle city centre yesterday to celebrate the city hosting the Mercury Prize for the first time.

The prestigious music awards will be held outside London for the first time in its history with a star-studded Newcastle ceremony on Thursday.

Shoppers passing Fenwick on Northumberland Street will spot that the department store’s iconic windows have been kitted out in a Mercury Prize theme to celebrate the occasion. Twin sister singers Twayn, who are playing in the city as part of the Mercury Prize Fringe festival this week, were there to perform as the window was revealed.
