Teenager dies four days after sea rescue at Whitley Bay

A TEENAGER has died after getting into difficulty in the sea in Whitley Bay.

On Thursday afternoon, emergency services and rescue teams came to the aid of 13-year-old Edie Smart at Whitley Bay beach.
A major rescue operation was launched and Edie, from Monkseaton, was able to be recovered to shore, where she received medical attention before being airlifted to hospital.
