Sycamore destroyers’ sentences not reviewed
The Journal
|August 25, 2025
THE prison sentence imposed on the two men behind the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree will not be reviewed.
Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers were each jailed for four years and three months for their roles in the felling.
‘The length of the sentence sparked debate about whether it was too lenient or too harsh.
‘The sentences were referred to the Attorney General’s Office for review for being too lenient.
‘A request was made through the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme.
‘The scheme allows anyone to ask for certain crown court sentences to be reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office if they think the sentence is too lenient, but the offence of criminal damage does not fall within the scheme.
