LIFESAVING teams in Northumberland were activated on Saturday night after two paddleboarders were caught out by an offshore wind and were unable to paddle back to shore.

They called 999 on a mobile phone kept in a waterproof pouch. Though the pair were wearing wetsuits and had stayed with their boards, they were not wearing personal flotation devices, a vital buoyancy aid. RNLI Berwick upon Tweed lifeboats launched both boats and the Berwick Coastguard wer
